Simulating Turn-Taking Behaviours with Coupled Dynamical Recognizers

چکیده
A coupled dynamical recognizer is proposed as a model for simulating turn-taking behaviour. An agent is modelled as a mobile robot with two wheels. A recurrent neural network is used to produce the motor outputs. By controlling this, agents compete to take turns on a two dimensional arena. There are two novel aspects to the present study. First, a dynamical recognizer is not only used for producing motor outputs but also to predict the other agent’s behaviour. Second, unlike a mere chasing game, turntaking behaviour is established only when each agent automatically switches from chaser to evader and vice

Joint Attention and Dynamics Repertoire in Coupled Dynamical Recognizers
A coupled dynamical recognizer is proposed as a model for simulating turn-taking behavior. An agent is modeled as a mobile robot with two wheels. A recurrent neural network is used to produce the motor outputs. By controlling this, agents compete to take turns on a two dimensional arena. By using the genetic algorithm technique, we show that turn-taking behavior is developed between two agents....
متن کاملChaotic itinerancy in coupled dynamical recognizers.
We argue that chaotic itinerancy in interaction between humans originates in the fluctuation of predictions provided by the nonconvergent nature of learning dynamics. A simple simulation model called the coupled dynamical recognizer is proposed to study this phenomenon. Daily cognitive phenomena provide many examples of chaotic itinerancy, such as turn taking in conversation. It is therefore an...
متن کاملEffect of time delays on agents' interaction dynamics
While speaking about social interaction, psychology claims as crucial the temporal correlations between interactants’ behaviours: to give to their partners a feeling of natural interaction, interactants, be human, robotic or virtual, must be able to react on appropriate time. Recent approaches consider autonomous agents as dynamical systems and the interaction as a coupling between these system...
متن کاملEarly development of turn-taking with parents shapes vocal acoustics in infant marmoset monkeys
In humans, vocal turn-taking is a ubiquitous form of social interaction. It is a communication system that exhibits the properties of a dynamical system: two individuals become coupled to each other via acoustic exchanges and mutually affect each other. Human turn-taking develops during the first year of life. We investigated the development of vocal turn-taking in infant marmoset monkeys, a Ne...
متن کاملSimulating Spoken Dialogue with a Focus on Realistic Turn-taking
We present a system for testing turn-taking strategies in a simulation environment, in which artificial dialogue participants exchange audio streams in real time – unlike earlier turn-taking simulations, which interchanged unambiguous symbolic messages. Dialogue participants autonomously determine their turn-taking behaviour, based on their analysis of the incoming audio. We use machine-learnin...
